There was no good quality health facility in Manikganj district which was surrounded by Padma, Jamuna, Dhaleshwari and Kaliganga rivers. Even there was no good, reliable health facility. For this the people here had to run to Dhaka. After approval of Hon’ble Prime Minister and Leader of the People Sheikh Hasina and under the direct supervision of Zahid Malek, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare this medical college started journey as Manikganj Medical the temporary campus of Manikganj Nursing College in 2015 with only 51 students. Later, about 2.5 km away from the city bus stand, in the beautiful natural environment of Dighi Union of Manikganj Sadar Upazila this medical college got its own campus built on 70 bigha land. In response to the demands of the local people this medical college was renamed under Colonel (Retd.) MA Malek, former Minister of Government, the first Mayor of Dhaka to Colonel Malek Medical College in 2016. At present the new permanent campus has its own 6-storey academic building, separate 4-storey hostel building for students. Although 51 students were admitted in the first batch at the beginning, at present 75 students are being admitted in the 7th batch in the 2020-2021 session. Students have already become doctors after graduation and are working in government service after doing BCS. Many students of this institution are in post graduate course also. Having got the opportunity to study, foreign students are coming to this country on scholarships and taking the opportunity to study in this medical college. Some of the students are achieving honors Marks in the University Professional Examinations. At present there are 113 experienced teachers. As we continue this progress, we will soon be able to qualify as a leading medical college of the country. I will do it insha Allah. Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu, may Bangladesh live forever.
